SURROUNDING AREA
Menorca is an authentic natural paradise, with its lovely beaches, ravines, grottoes, underwater caves, vegetation and local animal life. The coast offers the possibility of enjoying water sports, and in the interior one can enjoy a wide variety of possible excursions and routes. The island has an important historical heritage and still conserves megalithic constructions and defensive fortifications.

Points of interest around the port of Mahón:

Naval station: old navy arsenal built during the 18th century. Every 16th of July, on the Feast of the Virgin of Carmen, boats emerge from its wharves decorated for a maritime procession.

Es riu Pla and cala Rata: an area with little summer cottages on the sea. Some of these cottages are very old, like the stone baths built on the water.

Sant Antoni and The Golden Farm: a building that was witness to the romantic relationship between Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton. This old estate with its red façade gives its name to the cove it overlooks from the hill.

Venecia: an exemplary romantic building in the port of Mahón, with its very particular architecture that extends into the waters of the port.

Illa del Rei: here we can observe an old military hospital built by the English during the 18th century. Still conserved here are the ruins of a paleochristian basilica of the 6th century A.D.

El Llatzeret: a little island that in 1817 and again in 1917 served to hold people and goods from ships coming from other ports in quarantine.

La Mola: the fortress was built in different stages during the 14th century to defend the island from the coast against any invader attacking by sea.

Ribera sur, the village of Es Castell and Sant Felip: the village of Es Castell acquired its name from the San Felipe Castle, the nucleus of which was built in 1535 to prevent an attack on Mahón by Barbarossa and subsequently rebuilt by the English.

Costa de Ses Voltes: the avenue that runs from the port of Mahón to the city centre is full of arches from which you can visit the Rochina Gardens.
